The Round House gave me chills. This page-turner is more than the average whodunnit, it is more than a story about Native Americans, it is more than a story about revenge. This is a very compelling novel that will keep you going until the very last page, where it still had the strength to shock me and haunts me due to the strong feelings it brings up.
Joe is a wonderful character that brings up admiration. How can this young boy cope with the attack on his mother? He grows up way too fast when he tries to bring the attacker to justice.
The storytelling is very different from one of Erdrich's novels that I've read before, [b:Love Medicine|91440|Love Medicine|Louise Erdrich|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442951349s/91440.jpg|1524121]. Nevertheless, it is still in the spirit of Native American writing. I loved the myths and stories, about the round house, or about Akii. They strengthen the story without being a distraction to the plot.
The Round House is compelling and heartbreaking, and surely a recommendation.

In 1988, Geraldine is brutally attacked at the Round House. Although her husband, Bazil, attempts to get justice, the legal complexities make her case difficult. Geraldine's 13 year old son, Joe, is unsatisfied with the way the investigation is proceeding, and decides to take matters into his own hands.

I loved everything about this book. The writing style was absolutely beautiful. Erdrich did an amazing job with character development. The friendship between Joe, Cappy, Zach, and Angus was so raw, I enjoyed learning about Ojibwe culture, and I can't wait to read her other books.

This book is a Bildungsroman in the late 1980s on an Indian Reservation. The kids in the story are all about the same age as I was back then, on that eerily magical age between kid and adulthood.

This is the second book I’ve read this year where Star Trek the Next Generation was referenced, and I like the trend.

This book reminds me of Stephen King coming of age stories. Not quite as dire circumstances, but suitably tragic and violent events occur here, along with supernatural aspects.

The audiobook and the narrator was fantastic.

Powerful Storytelling

As usual, Are rich weaves a powerful and deep story. There's just so much happening, it's incredible how many layers there are to these stories. They also come with a particular heaviness.

A book about the intersections of sexual violence, family, law, and friendship set on Louise Erdrich's vibrant fictional reservation in North Dakota. Another great piece of the Louise Erdrich project
