I’d give this closer to 3.5 stars than 3. It took me a while to get into and from reading the description of the book before starting it I was expecting it to play out a little differently. The last 30% of the book was what I enjoyed the most as things started to pick up and fall into place. I understand we needed the first part of the story to build and to really understand the characters but it was just a little slow.

This book had me HOOKED. Really a PROPER Jojo Moyes. At the beginning I got a bit confused with the timeline, but I figured it out quickly. The characters were interesting and the plot had me reading the last 200 pages in one sitting.

Note: I'm rating it quite highly, but I would like to acknowledge that the "cheating on your significant other" trope isn't a fabulous one. It certainly lends to a lot of drama in books like these, but it's not romantic or devotional. I think this book handles it relatively well in the sense that Jenny is reluctant to step away from her marriage and that (spoiler!!) Ellie realizes that John does not view her in a romantic way, merely as a way to wet his willy, as it were. However, Ellie is EXTREMELY naive to this fact for a looooong time so it's not a great example. For the sake of plot development, cheating made for an interesting story line, but I don't condone cheating and I hope no one uses this as support in favor of cheating because cheating is always wrong imo.

the end was satisfying but everything else was patently ridiculous

I picked this book up because I loved [b:Me Before You|15507958|Me Before You (Me Before You, #1)|Jojo Moyes|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1357108762s/15507958.jpg|17763198] but it really didn't come close to MBY's level. It has an interesting premise but it was too drawn out and unnecessarily detailed. When I reached the halfway point, I couldn't believe there was still another new section to the book because the first half was detailed enough to be its own novel. The last few chapters picked up, but maybe that was because I was so excited the finish line was in sight.

I just couldn’t stop reading. Loved the crossover stories, the characters, the letters! Jennifer Stirling, I’m your fan.

I really enjoyed reading this book, although not as much as other JoJo Moyes books I've read. I have only read a few of hers so far, and have adored them. Yet, I was feverishly attached to the story and desperately trying to read it so I could find out what happened.

Happily I have now finished it with satisfaction, without being left feeling like there is something missing. It is written skillfully, in a manner that cleverly avoids giving us clues until right near the end. When I realised what I was coming to understand, I flicked backwards to see if the clues were there, and they were neatly avoided.

I agree with another review, that the story of Anthony and Jennifer continues on for such a long time, and just as you're nearly ready to burst, the book suddenly changes pace. However, the new angle of Ellie, John and Rory is just as intriguing. However, the misunderstandings that take place between all parties and all time frames are a little over the top. Surely certain aspects would have been cleared up rather than continue on for so long.

Anyway, I wish I enjoyed it a little more than I did, because I really did like it but I don't quite feel as though it was an amazing read. A wonderful love story, and the hint of more to come beyond the pages.

Another great romance with some annoying happenstance (is that the word?) moments, but completely enjoyable regardless.
