This book was a bit boring to get through at times but wow the last paragraph is 👌 definitely like waking up from a weird dream to finish it. I understand that the main theme is time moving in a circle and the same sort of things happening again and again, but I had to check the family tree so many times to remember who is who and who did what however many decades/pages ago, made worse because of how they use the same few names for everyone. (I never want to see the name Aureliano again.) I don’t really like this magical realism style either. It’s a very unique book, not like anything else, so you should probably try it for that reason.

I’ve never read a book quite like this and I’m excited to try more from this author! It was a slow read most of the time, but I had to read it slow to take in every sentence and detail. Also, thank god there was a family tree in the front of the book, I had to reference it often, but it added another element to the novel that made it unique.

It's easy to see why this novel is a classic, and I can appreciate its role in solidifying magical realism as a literary genre, but I personally didn't find the story very interesting. I kept finding myself wanting to enjoy it and being disappointed that I didn't.

Funny that i DNF-ed this at the start of the month, and i unexpectedly picked it back up and powered through the last hundred pages today bc I was in the mood for a fast-paced read LOL it doesn’t get any faster than this book tbh

I don’t know if I’ll be writing a review tho since i only gave it 3 stars lol

DNF for now at 76%, no rating. Hopefully I’ll get back to this in the future.
