A beautiful book with plenty to discover in the pictures.

Discussion topics: love and loss, finding your way out of the dark, overcoming fears, stress eating.

Getting a hold of this book was a mission, but worth it. I had to resist reading all day so I could save it until midnight and make it my first book of the year.

The illustration is beyond gorgeous. The story itself is quite simple, but carries more than enough meaning.

Oh my, this is a book I want to frame every page of. Everyone who enjoys children's books, lovely design, and/or foxes needs this book. This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever experienced and it will become a classic in due time in my mind. This book was created by the woman behind all of the penguin classic cover remakes (also to die for design). I could see opportunities for discussion about friends, seasons, nature, and feelings with this book when shared with your children. I really loved it and felt bad even splaying the pages fully open as if I would somehow damage the beauty of the prints sturdily placed in this hardcover storybook. I want this book to be printed as a coloring book. Someone please make that happen.

This book is beautiful and sweet. The ending let it down slightly. But it's one made to keep forever.

3 stars because the art is gorgeous! However the ending didn't really deliver for me, sadly.

This was such a beautiful little story! I stumbled upon this book while researching fables about belonging, and found it very touching. It's short and the writing is sparse (it is a fable after all), but I still felt it captured a lot of emotion and I definitely felt the Fox's loneliness. The art in the book is also gorgeous and I'm already debating getting a tattoo of one of the images. Definitely going to pick up a physical version of this book to read to my future children.
