3.5 stars. Very much a slow burn but I'm intrigued where it will go.

Beautifully drawn, volume 1 is all about the slow-build. Vol 2 is all about the slow-build. Then sadly, volume 3 is ALSO about the slow-build, until suddenly everything is happening, leading to ... an abrupt ending. Wat.
Who is the Red Mother? Nobody knows. Some giant bug thing who lost an eye.
Why do the cultists worship her? Idk, maybe they have a fetish for one-eyed things.
FL confronts the Red Mother, stabs it, destroyed the fake eye, then abruptly everything is hunky dory. No repercussions. She's back to normal life forever more.
Verdict: Underwhelming.
Spoiler
FL has one of her eye destroyed then has to wear a fake eye. Everyone she meets thereafter belongs to a cult that intends to bring back the Red Mother, using FL as vessel. FL's two love interests are killed summarily to become incorporated into the Red Mother's herald--a black smokey monster with claws.Who is the Red Mother? Nobody knows.
