It only took about a chapter or two to feel completely exposed and aware of my penchant for conversational narcissism. Murphy beautifully argues the case for listening as the power player in the art of communication. In my conversations since reading this book, I cannot help but analyze my listening (or lack thereof), and try my best to improve my skills.

Changes how you look at the world of conversation. Likely making you at least a slightly better person

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I learned a lot, and it really has made me more mindful of how I'm listening and communicating with others. There were a few places where the author lost me, in terms of the conclusions she was making, but overall this was a fun and informative read.

“And perhaps most important, listening keeps you from being the fool yourself”

Interesting, thoughtful and insightful. I picked up this book because I know I could be a better listener and in turn respond better to those around me and have great conversations. I’ve been noticing how I speak with others and reflect on what I could have said better. I’m quick to respond and want to take the time to ponder, reflect and respond softer in the present moment. Great book would recommend for most of us as we have been stripped of many communication skills due to social media etc.

This book is a true wealth of knowledge. In truth, I think it is just the tip of the iceberg as far as these topics go, but it is an incredible first taste of this critical topic. I want to buy this book for everyone because Murphy is right; we don't listen and it is critically important that we do. Read it.

surprisingly pretty good, esp as an audiobook (lol). Biggest thing I got out of this was great strategies for reframing how listening is really an exercise in figuring out how the person is truly feeling and asking good questions. Will be revisiting to collect notes!

Audiobook. One of those reads I’ll read again in the future because I truly do love the value of listening and I think this book has a lot of hidden gems that made me thing. Recommend for anyone wanting to grow!
