Sylvie knows her weakness is Dominic Crane and we find out just how much of a weakness he is for her when she finally meets him, turns out she is a weakness for Dominic aka Nic herself. Both have complex pasts, Nic is still stuck in his thinking there is no way out without a body count while Sylvie is still not running but not facing her past so she can move on. The connection is real and the want to be together is real, however with everything going on with Nic and not knowing who to trust and how much deadly danger he, his brother and those around him are in makes this a page turner to see if everyone will make it out and if so in a way where Sylvie and Nic could be together and safe!.

A reluctant mobster and a hacker face off against the bad mafia. He's basically a mobster with morals, unexpectedly gentle and caring. She's smart, fiesty and jaded. There's some insta-lust, judgy banter and a whole lotta sparks. Boundaries are pushed, and they challenge each other constantly. But they saw each other's vulnerabilities, and  begin to develop real feelings. He's actually a (dominant) cinnamon roll for her and it's kinda sweet.

Their steamy scenes are sexy, and the emotional moments are great,  there's no miscommunication (yay). Given he's a criminal, with people out for his blood, it's not an easy road for them. I liked that
they had time apart before reuniting, the HEA feels realistic and very deserved
. The suspense is fine, but felt scattered at times, and was resolved a bit abruptly.

This 3rd book in the Bennett Security series can be read as a standalone, but I’d recommend reading the two prior books to better understand the backstory of both Dominic and Sylvie.

Dominic is under house arrest and wearing an ankle
monitor as part of his bail terms. I’m the prior two books in the series he was a supporting character in Max and Lana’s storyline (book 2). Sylvie is one of Max Bennett’s go-to people in his company often asked to do the near impossible with her computer skills.

In this book the series’ storyline delves into Dominic Crane and his involvement as the crime boss for the Syndicate aka his family’s ‘business’.

I enjoyed getting to know Dominic and Sylvie more than who they seemed to be as support characters. Each of them had complicated family dynamics which greatly affected them. When Sylvie and Dominic first interact, their roles as former crime boss and security consultant lead to some snarky sparks being generated. The chemistry between these two surprises each of them, and then their layers start pealing which made for a very interesting read.

This book has plenty of suspense and intrigue to go along with the steamy relationship between Dominic and Sylvie.

A slog to get through…

Honestly maybe my New Year’s resolution should be not to continue bad books. Because WOW this was hard to get through, but I just kept trying.

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Sylvie is a hacker, sent to mafia boss Dominic Crane's house to install a security system. But when she meets him, she finds the rumors of him being irresistible are instantly true.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Honestly this is my own fault. I saw this in a top 10 list and as the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat.

The book was honestly just ok. It just really felt like it wasn’t enough, all the way around. Sylvie’s character had potential, as did Dominic’s, but they weren’t fleshed out enough to be compelling. The tension felt dry. The pacing of the story, especially the end, made it read truly slow for me.

I honestly should have DNFed it at like 25%, but I was too stubborn.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 2.5/5 ⭐⭐

𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 2.5/5 🌶🌶

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱: Anything by Susan Stoker is a better pickup than this. Also recommend Alex Lindell’s Trident Security series.

I was super excited to see this third book in the Bennett Security romantic suspense series! Computer expert Sylvie Trousseau has had to restart her life after a complicated and hurtful break with her family. She now works for Bennett Security. When she’s assigned to perform a security system installation at the house of mobster Dominic Crane, the chemistry is instantaneous, even though Sylvie doesn’t want to be drawn in. Dominic was forced to take over the Silverlake Syndicate by his family and now is under house arrest, torn whether he should turn on the mob and go into witness protection, or stay silent and remain loyal to family. I found the chemistry between these two to be intense and the romance to be surprisingly sweet for a bad boy romance where someone is in organized crime. Both Sylvie and Dominic have difficult pasts to overcome that they connect over. There was a section in the middle of the book where they exchanged slightly adorkable text messages that melted my heart. And as with the previous books, the steamy scenes are HOT!

I received a complimentary copy of Hard Wired as one of its beta readers. This is my honest and voluntary review.

What an enjoyable read! I love a good female hacker story and LOVE when we get to see a nerdy girl show off. Our FMC, Sylvie, is a 30 y/o hacker who can write code like no other. At multiple points throughout the story she gets to crack down on her laptop and show off her skills. Dominic, our MC, is enamored by her intelligence and wit. When they first meet, Sylvie gets all tripped up by how attractive she thinks Dominic is and adorably stumbles through their initial interaction. This leads to witty banter and an intense growing attraction - and of course some steamy scenes.

These characters feel pretty well written but I would've liked to see a little more depth to Dominic. To not give anything away, throughout the book he is conflicted about what path he should take (A or B) and at the end of the book, he mentions that the path he chose (path C) "felt like him." But throughout the story, we don't get much in terms of inner monologue or discussion with Sylvie about who he is outside of his mobster identity. Path C kind of felt like it came out of left field... I would've liked to see some more conversations about their potential future between him and Sylvie maybe in the form of daydreaming together or "would you rather" types of conversations.

One thing I absolutely LOVED about this book was the open and honest conversation about Sylvie's inability to orgasm. Dominic is not only immensely willing but also extremely enthusiastic about helping her with this. The dialogue and conversations regarding this topic felt so real, especially when so many women find it hard to achieve orgasm with male partners. There was no shaming and no teasing when it came to Sylvie and her body. I absolutely think that if more men were like Dominic, we'd have a lot more happy women on this earth.

Overall, this is a fun, quick read that I really enjoyed! Can't wait to check out more from this author. :)
