Penny + Chase= sparks

Reader’s Notes:

– Chase sees Penny in her underwear twice: first time quick and on accident (sharing a bathroom and one left as the other went to go in) and second when he removes her wet clothes in order to save her from hypothermia (she fell through ice in below freezing temperatures)

Review:

Who wants to laugh? I know I love to read funny books and have a laugh and this is a great book for it! Some of my favorite moments of this story (the card game, the mice) were the funniest things to read! And the chemistry between Penny and Chase is off the charts!

Penny has known Chase for awhile, and even liked him at one point, but she considers him the enemy after he inadvertently broke her heart. So when she goes to a cabin that her best friend’s family owns (that she was told was empty), she is not happy to find Chase inside. But she can’t throw him out, her brother (who married her best friend) told him he could stay in the cabin. And there’s the little thing called a blizzard keeping them stuck too…

With mishaps and unexpected events, they have to band together in order to survive. Which causes Penny to be confused as to why it seems like Chase is acting interested when he never has before. She wonders if it’s only because of the circumstances or if it’s real.

And she wonders if she can let go what he did to break her heart…

BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Penny is looking forward to staying at her sister-in-law’s family cabin the week before Christmas. She’ll have it all to herself and be able to finish writing her next book and make her deadline. But when she gets there she discovers her brother’s best friend and enemy, Chase. He paid her brother for a week at the cabin. And with the snow coming down, it looks like neither of them can leave. As the two are forced to share the cabin for the week, they’re also forced to deal with their past and some romantic feelings.

This was my first Cindy Steel book and if it wasnt just so fun and wonderful. I loved Penny and Chase and the dynamic between them. Chase was such a flirt and I loved watching Penny get flustered by him. I felt the reason for Penny’s dislike of him was totally warranted and the lesson of this story was a good one: that the off handed comments we make can hurt people when we don’t even realize they’re listening and have lasting effects. This story was adorable and I can’t wait to read more by Cindy!

I’m not necessarily a novella person. It just doesn’t give enough time for characters and story lines to develop in my opinion. Having said that, I’m not sure that more pages would have made this significantly better. It was good enough if you enjoy the genre and want a quick dose of winter romance.
