Read Curious Tides first.

Nice shirt story giving us a bit of insight into Romie's mindset before the beginning of the main book.
The most interesting thing to me was seeing how Romie thought and acted, and how different that felt from how Emory talks and feels about her in the main book. Also, how Romie thinks and feels about Emory, and how that contrasts with how Emory acts and grows through the main book.

This is just a good perspective shift snippet of the lead up to the main story, but could spil a few key details if you haven't read Curious Tides yet.

This was amazing.  I would say that it makes more sense to read it after the first book, as there are some things that can't be explained fully due to the shortness of the book.

I can't wait to see where the next book leads, and read more of Lacelle's writing!

Loved reading this after I’d already read Curious Tides. It’s told from Romie’s perspective and offers us a glimpse of the day before she ventured into Dovermere Caves. While I did not find much to love in Romie herself, making me wonder about Emory’s strong attachment, her affection and concern for her car Dusk if she failed to return was incredibly humanizing. I also appreciated the practical look at the process of bloodletting, explaining ideas within Curious Tifes more fully. I’m not sure I’d ever call Romie lovable, but I loved stepping into her perspective to understand what drew her to participate in the ritual that night.

I’d read this after reading book one, and not before, if I got to tell a friend which order to read these in. I’m very much looking forward to continuing to explore this world in book 2.

I have not read Curious Tides yet, but I am so excited to start.
So when I was offered a chance to read this prequel I jumped on it.

Here we see the events immediately leading up to the fateful night in the Dovermere sea caves, and get a brief introduction to some of the characters we will see in book 1.
