this was amazingly written and so, so haunting. the fact that something close to this is happening in afghanistan is absolutely heart shattering and outrageous. margaret atwood created a masterpiece that i will never forget reading.

Reading this was eerie. There were so many moments when I was reading something, and thought: "Did the US government read this and think it was a manual for how to start and run a regime??" Honestly, with all the crazy going on it the world, and all the history lessons we've failed to learn, this should be required high school reading. So maybe the next generation will recognize warning signs as they happen.

Margaret Atwood's Twitter account reposting 'When Writers Silence Writers' article by The Atlantic (04/05/24). The article is lengthy and though I didn't read it all, I got the point, it talks about the silencing of writers over political issues but fails to mention all of the Palestinian authors who are being silenced during the atrocities happening in their homeland and their families. Very disappointing coming from the women who wrote about Gilead putting Genocide in quotation marks.

I read this when I was challenged by my English tutor to read when at the time I was not a recreational reader. This is going back probably around 5 years ago, so I don't remember the book too well in all honesty, but I do remember finding the book and its concept interesting. Because of this, I'm purely guessing what my younger self would've rated it. I don't really have an interest in revisiting the book at this moment in time, but if I do then I will change this review accordingly.
