I thoroughly enjoyed this dark, smutty reimagining of Alice in Wonderland. The character of Shadow - based on the Cheshire Cat - was brilliantly chaotic and loveable, and the fantasy-meets-sci-fi themes were well-executed.
I've given this novel 4 stars instead of 5 just because I think it was maybe 10-15% too long and overly descriptive at times. I found myself skim-reading certain sections, wanting the plot to move along faster. But overall it was still great and I highly recommend.
With each novel that I read by the Tiffany Roberts writing duo, the more I appreciate how well they balance steamy romance with detailed worldbuilding and believable emotional connections.
Check the trigger warnings on the author's website prior to reading! There's some dark themes here that might not suit everyone.

I found the use they made of both the original story and the world and characters creative, giving them both a fresh, new and unique feel. Despite this, some scenes seemed to me to be too fast or too long. But it is compensated by the mystery and the progress of the protagonists' relationship.
In conclusion, excellent storytelling is accompanied by an original and creative world, a perfect amount of spice at the right moments and lovable characters with ideal chemistry.

Alice knows that she's in a simulation, but she doesn't quite know what to do about it. Everything is disorienting (The flowers are changing size and shape! Why does my face look like that!), and she's being pushed and pulled around by other sinister characters that clearly do not have her best interests in mind. (That's putting it mildly.)
Shadow, her love interest, is an enigmatic figure. Like most of Wonderland's inhabitants, he doesn't know this is a simulation either, but what he does know is that the and Alice belong together. They are so cute together, I loved it.
I do think asylums are a form of incarceration, and with that in mind I wish the book acknowledged that some of the antagonists are also victims. Not only do they have no choice but to be there, but they likely don't know that what they're experiencing isn't real.
