I loved her other books, so I expected to swoon over this one as well. It was beautifully written, and a good book, but not her best.

I like Olive Kitteridge so much that I read this immediately after. I can't remember much about it, but I did like it.

Maybe I come back to this another time. I like Elizabeth Strout's later books, but this one was a bit of a chore to read. And I'm also just not interested enough in the story.

I enjoyed the book although it was a little slow to get into. It illustrates that the best Christians are those who walk the walk rather than talk the talk.

On the surface this book doesn't seem like much, based in a small rural town in Maine in 1959. I have no idea where or why I picked this book up, but I'm glad I did. There's no huge twist or shocking revelation, but I still couldn't put the book down. It is an easy read, but it causes you to give pause and do some soul searching about your own beliefs and your own behaviour towards community.

A melancholy story, full of characters who are well developed and, like all, flawed and haunted by their own demons. I loved the ending. Ms. Strout never disappoints!

I thought I’d like this more than I did.
