A River Enchanted was absolutely stunning, a perfect mix of coziness, mystery, and folklore. Rebecca Ross’ writing is so beautiful, I found myself so captivated by the magic, the island and the characters. I felt like I was reading an old fairytale, the magic and the lore was so rich and intriguing. I loved the presence of music and poetry in the world as well.

All of the characters in this story were so compelling as well. I adored Sidra and I thought Torin was such an interesting character. Sidra’s struggles with her faith and the journey she went on to heal her grief was so well done and impactful. I also really enjoyed watching grizzly Torin grow and change for the better.

I did love Jack and Adaira but I felt like Sidra and Torin’s relationship had more depth. I did like the juxtaposition of the two relationships, how Sidra and Torin grew to love each other so deeply despite their faults and initial arrangement. Whereas Adaira and Jack were always destined to be together in whatever capacity. I really hope to see Jack and Adaira’s relationship grow more in the next book, despite the challenges that lay before them.

Wow wow wow. Killer. I’m so grateful I came across this book because of an instagram post by another favorite author. Truly fantastical and enthralling. I’ll sing this book’s praises all year. Reads like this give new weight to a five star read.

If I was a reader who prefers character driven stories or if I was a reader who prefers plot driven stories, this would probably have been a 3-star read. But since I am a vibe focused reader, it's 4 stars. This story is definitely all vibes and almost no plot. Well, there is a plot, but it's SOOO slow. I liked it, though, and I liked the characters, but both did not stand out much. The atmosphere, though, woah. It's very magical and mystical, with a big focus on nature and the elements. Also, the audiobook narrator had the thickest Scottish accent, so it felt like it was taking place there.
I also think, this book was way too long. So long. There was not enough plot or character development to warrant this many pages, tbh. But since I listened to it on audiobook, I just laid back, listened to it and enjoyed the setting and atmosphere.

“I am but a verse inspired by your chorus, and I will follow you until the end, when the isle takes my bones and my name is nothing more than a remembrance on a headstone, next to yours.”

A River Enchanted was multiple love stories tied into something that had the feel of a classic British folktale or legend. I quickly slipped into the story and I loved every second I spent there.
I listened to the audiobook of A River Enchanted just after returning from the Isle of Man, and it felt very familiar when reading this. It was a world with legends at its heart, where rumours could be carried on the wind and the weather was at the whim of the fair folk. I loved reading about the characters in this that honoured their legends and how they were able to invite magic into the everyday.
I liked that it wasn’t just one person’s story, that it was a book that spanned many houses. However, the romances it did focus on were lovely and a bit slow burn.
I enjoyed the plot and how they resolved it. There were some twists I thought the book would take, and then it went in a different direction. I’m really looking forward to seeing where the story will go in the sequel.

This book was slow to start but I ended up hooked. There were several twists that I did not expect but I’m excited to pick up the second book.

4.5 out of 5 ☆’s.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve read a fantasy novel — so I was a bit worried going into ”A River Enchanted” that it would take me awhile to get back into the groove of things — but the transition ended up being pretty seamless for me, thanks to Ross’ writing style! :)

ੈ✩‧₊˚

adored the characters in this novel. They felt incredibly real + raw & there were numerous moments throughout the story where I wanted to reach through the pages and give them a big hug (🥺)…

ੈ✩‧₊˚

I would die for Sidra — that’s all. ♡
