I received “Dragon Unbound: A Dragon Kings Novella” as an ARC to review, and what a great novella in the Dragon King series. This works well as a stand-alone, but it would also help to read previous books in the series. I consistently find it amazing that each of the Dragon King stories gets increasingly better when the first was amazing to start with.

Donna Grant opens up a new world, Zora, filled with intrigue, mystery, despair, and yes even love. There is a mysterious antagonist that poses an ongoing threat to the Dragon Kings; new strong female characters that include Tamlyn, the heroine in this novella, who risks her life repeatedly to save the children, and Cullen the Dragon King who has spent countless millennia on Earth and has now traveled to this realm.

Tamlyn and Cullen are drawn together for a noble cause, and from there the DragonFire just keeps getting hotter. Once I picked this book up I could not put it down. The characters, the action and the romance really bring it all together for this adventure in Zora, and it does make me look forward to the next novel in this series. I highly recommend this book, and then the series – excellent reading from Donna Grant!

Series: Dragon Kings #3
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

Cullen is spending some time in the dragon realm to help try and find the evil targeting the dragons. What he doesn’t expect is to find a beautiful woman running from soldiers with a child, or for him to instantly be attracted to her.

Cullen and Tamlyn’s story was fast paced and emotional. Tamlyn is a very interesting magical woman. I won’t say what she is because I feel that would be a spoiler but it was something that I never considered in this world. This dragon realm keeps surprising me with the people and magic in it. I really liked how protective Tamlyn was of the children she rescues and her two friends.

Cullen is a protective alpha male who refuses to do nothing when he realizes kids are in danger. I liked him, especially since he was willing to go against orders to do the right thing. I enjoyed Tamlyn and Cullen’s relationship a lot. This is a fated mate's romance but they still took their time to get to know each other, in between a dangerous rescue mission.

Overall, this was a great novella for the series. It brought about new information about the danger that threatens the dragons and concerns about the magic wielding humans. Also, new kinds of magical humans and creatures, which is always a plus.

Trigger Warnings: death of children

Cullen, King of Garnets, has been given the opportunity to visit with the newly discovered dragons.
He has to tread carefully though, Con isn't in charge here, his children are and they have very...set rules about interacting with the humans on their realm. The arrival of the Dragon Kings seems to have unleashed a new foe, one that is invisible to almost everyone!

Tamlyn's magic was discovered as she grew and she was cast out by her so-called family.  Tortured and set for sacrifice she was saved by one of her own, a Banshee.  But she barely scratched the surface of her powers.  It seems that meeting with Cullen has her "levelled up". Can she really trust the handsome but powerful stranger to help her rescue the other children incarceated?

Cullen and Tamlyn were a great match.  Cullen may have been initially more powerful but he was perfectly willing to let Tamlyn take the lead, she was the local asset and knew the enemy best.  Tamlyn's only real issues was asking for help, from her decades-old friendships or her newer one with the Dragon Kings.

There are great messages interwoven with the story, especially that of 2different doesn't make you bad".

There are a couple of TW: Child capture/sacrifice (unseen), abuse survival
