A heinous hound roams the hills of Dartmoor… preying upon the Baskerville men?? Perhaps. Well rest assured- Sherlock Holmes is on the case!
The moors are spooky enough as is, so the notion of a wild beast lurking in the shadows and murdering men- terrifying! Like with most mysteries, despite extremely logical explanations, I much prefer the lore and illusion: a hideous monstrous reckoning for the vile Hugo Baskerville! After all, we do pay for the sins of our ancestors… to some degree at least. And Watson describes Baskerville Hall as a “god forsaken corner of the world” where “the longer one stays, the longer the spirit of the moors sink into one’s soul.”
Dartmoor! A rich and illustrious literary setting and intriguing archeological landscape. Supposedly there are ritual sites, stone settlements, and other remnants of prehistoric man scattered throughout the hills and tors. So cool.
Anyways, despite my growing up on Nancy Drew, I found that I now have very little taste for detective stories…. but I do adore Sherlock Holmes (2009) with RDJ <3

I'm not sure if I am just used to the shorter, more efficient short stories, but this one felt too long to me. I kept losing interest through the middle and ended with a sense of, oh was that it?

An excellent Sherlock and Watson story that ticks most of the boxes for a great mystery.
I read this first as a school book, and taking this up again was a little trip down the memory lane; a gentle reminder of what made me love reading books in the first place.
