I absolutely love Darynda Jones, so I knew I would love this book and I did! Sunshine Vicram is hilarious, bad-ass, and a little bit crazy, in the best way!!

Took me a bit to get into this one (this seems to be a pattern) and yes, it does not rank high on the realism scale, but I still really enjoyed it. A great reader bringing Sunshine and Auri to life helped. It’s such a small aspect, but the fake police blotter cracked me up as someone who used to read small town sheriff’s reports as part of my job. Probably going to appeal more to fans of humorous, light family dramas than mysteries.

Great, humorous writing but also well crafted mystery / thriller. Enjoyed all the characters. Will definitely read the next one!

4.5 Stars. This reminds me a lot of a Janet Evanovich book and that is why I loved it. Love the characters, the mystery, and the town. Can’t wait to read more in the series.

So many trite phrases! I just couldn’t get past the mediocre writing to enjoy the story.

Oh Darynda Jones (and Lorelei King) I missed you! I missed your amazing humor and terrific storytelling. I'm so glad you're back.

This is the first in a series featuring Sunshine Vicram, the newly elected sheriff of Del Sol county, NM. Sunny is funny and smart and vulnerable, and the secondary characters are richly drawn and just plain fun. I'm soooo looking forward to the series continuing. Soon?

And in the meantime I might need to reread the Charley Davidson books.... for another hit of the Jones/King magic.

Cover: Appropriate.
Narrator: Genius!
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: Sunny is a Gryffindor. Levi? Possibly a Slytherin but I need to see more of him before the sorting is finalized. ;)

Themes: New Mexico, sheriff's office, abduction, humor
