This one was a rough read. It started out almost funny in how ridiculous some characters acted and interacted with one another, I think I understand the main themes of the novel well.

The only thing that kept me reading past a certain point was morbid curiosity. "What is this guy going to do next? Do I want to know?" I would ask that question with every new chapter and around the Christmas party chapter I decided I was not interested anymore.

I believe that some recent real-life political news made it so the book left an extra bad taste in my mouth and I really could not finish it.

One of the most uncomfortable books I ever read.

could've gotten the point across with much, much less barbarity that has since been burned into every wrinkle of my brain

I can see why this book got made into a movie, but if you’re interested in the premise at all, you should really just watch the movie. This book was a drag.

Helluva gorey book. A lot more sexual violence than I thought.

Patrick Bateman is a psychopathic, narcissistic, brand obsessed yuppie
who only gets away with it because he masks as anybody who’s ever been a Wall Street fellow.
It’s oddly gripping though it still took me weeks to finish.

Was sort of surprised with the Louis storyline. Patrick is super homophobic. I half expected him to kill Louis but that never came. He even warned Louis, which is even more surprising.

I enjoyed it for some part. I’m left confused a lot, like all of those walls of text which I’m sure is just the insanity of Bateman’s inner mind. It’s an over the top depiction of yuppie culture with a murderous, and extremely violent, twist on it. Bateman is on the constant hunt for addiction and nobody cares for anyone else except themselves and how they envy each other.
A constant dick-measuring contest when all the guys are together er, my god.
He has so many attempts to fit in that it makes me laugh from second hand embarrassment. Even the music reviews, though lengthy, are hilarious as Bateman treats it so incredibly seriously.

An honestly interesting and well-written book. However, I will be selective with who I recommend this book too. Some of these sections leave little to the imagination…
