Fantastic debut collection from Eve Ewing. I follow the author on social media and was absolutely intrigued by her new release. If you are a native of 80s/90s Chicago, you’ll definitely appreciate this nostalgic look at life in the city through Ewing’s eyes & prose. Personal faves were her idea to Koko Taylor and Prince, as well as her childhood recollection of early 90s Navy Pier. Def a poetry collection I’ll come back to again.

Beautiful and accessible and powerful, Electric Arches is a striking work that kept me coming back, even though I haven’t read books of poetry since I was a kid reading Shel Silverstein. Ewing writes vividly and potently about the world we live in.

Fave poems:

oil and water
what I mean when I say I’m sharpening my oyster knife
why you cannot touch my hair
one thousand and one ways to touch your own face

I've loved her other work, but I had trouble connecting with this.

While I didn't love it as much as 1919, it still is a fantastic collection of poems and gets my full love and respect.

Eve Ewing is just such a brilliant poet, and I can't TAKE IT!

Best poetry collection I've ever read before. Structure was unique and the poems, prose, and imagery were perfect.
