Lore Olympus has been in my general area of being on the internet for a long time. I used to be a far more avid fangirl online and in that time Lore Olympus continued to follow me. However, for whatever reason, it just didn’t grab me. I somehow managed to watch a 5-hour long video essay on it, as well as read the first five episodes, and yet it eluded me. That was until I saw the first volume at my local target and my dear book friends suggested for us to read it together. This was a fatal mistake because I tore this book from cover to cover and was done with it after two days. Now I’m a LO maniac and I’m on the hunt for more content, I reinstalled webtoon, I’m looking for fan forums, more video essays. It grabbed me by the heart and now I’m stuck. I can’t escape this life now, I’ve become obsessed and can’t wait for the next volume to drop in July (yeah of course I already know, I told you I’ve been searching). The reimaging of this beloved myth is both creative and captivating, the art style is unmatched, and while a little cringe at times the writing is lighthearted and fun. You can trust and believe that I will be watching the show as soon as it drops.

Lore Olympus is the first volume in a bind up of the popular web series on Webtoon. It is a Hades and Persephone retelling taking place in the modern day.
I haven’t read the webtoon before this although I have been interested. It was pretty intimidating starting this series as there are so many episodes in this series out already. However when I saw this bind up coming out, I knew I had to read it.
First off, I really liked how Rachel Smythe uses color in this book. It’s interesting how she contrasts colors of couples and people together to really make the artwork stand out. This book features full color illustrations that are absolutely stunning and make the story so visually appealing. I love how she drew each character and I can’t wait to see her other artwork as the series goes on.
This part of the bind up didn’t contain as much plot as I’m sure future bind ups and episodes do. This was more about introducing the world and the characters and I thought it was so well done. This book does come with trigger warnings at the beginning which I am so glad that the author put into it. There is definitely an event at the end of this that could be triggering and the trigger warning page lays it out very explicitly what might happen.
Overall, I’m glad that I picked this book up. I really loved the art style and the story that was started in this volume. I will definitely be picking up the second bind up when it comes out and might read the webtoon now that I have started this.
