I really enjoyed this book! The mystery was well paced, and the clues were all scattered in in a way that was believable. There were of course some red herrings, but all the twists made sense. I highly recommend!

There are two different versions of this book - one published in the UK (the original) and one published in the US. While the differences aren’t huge, I do think some of the changes do affect the character of the story. I was reading along with a copy of the original text, and I felt the culture of being set in the UK made a lot of sense with some of the situations that happen.

Whoever was in charge of editing out the British-isms in the US version... I do not think you succeeded. This book was so clearly British pretending to be American, it honestly took me out of the story. A lot of the dialog felt totally unnatural for Americans. And there were other clues, especially related to the police that instantly told you this was not an American story. There were also so many instances where corrections that would have been super minor  (ex. "you fancied me" could have been easily changed to "you liked me" or "you were into me") were left unedited that it ended up feeling a little lazy. I almost wished I picked up the British version instead.

Despite that minor critique, I really enjoyed the book. I saw a few things coming but the way we got there still surprised me and I enjoyed piecing the clues together along with Pippa and figuring out how it all connected. I will be picking up the rest of the books in the series.

I truly don’t understand how this book has so many 5-star ratings but I’m just hoping it encourages them to read more in the genre to actually find the 5-star ones. 🩵 this book was VERY Y.A. (didn’t know that before I got it) full of privilege and ignorance. So perfectly teen. I wanted to read it before watching the series but I feel like the series will probably be better than the book? Idk but also
WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO BARNEY LIKE THAT?!?! 😩😩😩

This book is very YA in that there are inappropriate age gap relationships all over the place, wild child logic, and fairly predictable plot points. I didn't guess the final two twists ahead of time so I'll give the book credit for that. It made me chuckle a few times, and I felt genuinely sad for characters many times.
