The Locked Door is a story filled with action, twists and turns, and the constant questioning of how the main character was smart enough to get a medical degree. To preface this, I like the story. Especially since the reveals at the end were unexpected (though the question of whether the ending was deserved is a debate amongst fans). I felt like the story was easy to follow while the hints to the killer were not distracting enough to take away from what was being shown. Nora, however, is probably the worst thing about the book even though in terms of main characters written by McFadden, she's one of the saintly ones with a better personality. Nora's constant bad decisions and incriminating behavior when confronting the police made me constantly question how this woman had the logic ability to become a doctor. Either way, she's not the worst yet not the best. But her character doesn't distract me enough from the overall story to be unbearable.

A solid mystery/thriller that had me guessing til the very end!

I was intrigued by the serial killer aspect of the plot but did feel like there were some missing pieces of Nora’s dad’s story and her childhood that could have been explained more. For example, we don’t know about any other of her dad’s victims, how he lured them in, how he involved Nora, what knowledge Nora’s mother had of his acts, etc., and I feel like these details could have enhanced the story. I really wasn’t sure what to think of Nora throughout the book — I’m still not sure how I feel about her.

Overall, a quick and easy read!

Solid thriller with a good twist—didn’t see the ending coming at all! I like a thriller with a good twist.

However, there were two drawbacks: 1) the plot was a bit drawn out and meandering and; 2) the main character displayed very little common sense throughout the book, to the point where it was a bit unbelievable

Also, if you can avoid it, don’t listen to the audiobook—performance was abysmal. The narrator used this oddly formal and stiff narration style that lacked emotion.
