Ironically, Qui-Gon is a lot like Anakin. I can’t help but think it would have been an absolute disaster if he had been the one to train him instead of Obi-Wan.
I was not a fan of Gray’s other Star Wars books, but this was definitely worth it.

This book is reminiscent of the old Jedi Apprentice novels, and any fans of that saga will definitely enjoy this one. This is another story of Qui Gon and Obi Wan as master and apprentice, and once again they have the same issues of being very different people with very different behaviours. An unlikely match that does work wonders when they learn to find each other in the middle. The plot was a bit slow at times, and certain matters got a bit repetitive, but overall it's a solid Star Wars novel. Not the best Star Wars written by Claudia Gray, but definitely good. And Claudia Gray has become one of my favourite Star Wars authors among the ones that have joined the saga with the new canon. So I definitely recommend anything written by her.madamenovelist's review against another edition

The plot/action was generally good but the ending felt rushed. And there seemed to be quiet a lot repetition of things.
I loved the side characters mostly Pax and their crewmate, they have a great dynamic and were fun. But Rael Aveross was cool too.
I am not that big of a fan of Qui Gon Jin and the whole prophecy stuff just makes me uncomfortable, and it is mostly his book, so not perfect for me. I am not adopting most of the handling of the jedi order and also not all of young Obi Wans characterization from here, just didnt vibe with my interpretation of it.
