I liked this book very much! The only thing that stopped me from giving this book 5 stars were that the main character, Talia, is a bit annoying sometimes. But all in all this was a very good book!

So what do I think about this book? I could have written this book better. That's what I think. It's one of those books were the plot given in the synopsis finally comes in at 3/4 through the book. Now there are ways to make this book better. Take out MOST of the love and "what am I going to do without a boy?" attitude and highlight all the missions she goes on and make this an action packed book with a great character that is driven to be the best hunter ever so she can get her revenge. That sadly is what this book promises, but doesn't deliver.
Talia is a love sick puppy that can't make up her mind, that only cares about guys and going out into the city to party. Not only does she have to be constantly reminded that she wants revenge for her parents death, but she isn't that great of a hunter. She talks about she won all of her battles in getting to be a hunter, but she gets stabbed on her first mission. PATHEDIC!! I would have made Talia cocky, and good at what she is. so that she can fall, by getting stabbed on her fifth mission or something. Her character isn't consistent. And Talia isn't the only one. Erik was like this fun brother type dude, and then he just freaks about Donovan and Talia. That came out of nowhere. When I read that part I thought. "I smell a poorly written love triangle." But that didn't happen. I figured after looking at Donovan and Talia's relationship and seeing that it was more poorly written then the characters themselves. The other guy in her hunter group thing was much better of a character, but I can't even remember his name because he was still poorly written. Mac and Donovan annoyed me to no end, and if I can make up my mind to continue with this series I'm sure they will annoy me even further. The supposed "bad guy" was nicer then the "good guy" Mac. (Obvious foreshadow about the corruption of TOXIC)So I have a theory and to see if it's true would be the only reason I would continue with this torture.
The author skimmed over all the good parts of this book. Which would be the missions. She spent too much time on the prep for the missions, and the boy trouble. I would have added some love, but it would be minimal, because that what a book with a concept like this calls for. I liked the concept. When I started reading I was like this is a good free book and then I read more and my smile dropped. Talia's feelings for Erik came out of nowhere. Just talking about this book angers me. The only reason I give this book two stars is because the ending. When she finally left for her solo mission that's when it got good. I felt it could have been extended and it would be fine, maybe even better. The author should have added a few days, maybe a ball she gets herself into at Cranes mansion. It might be cliché but it works better. So ladies and gentlemen that is what I think about this so called "book."
I would like to say again that I do like the concept and this book could have been amazing, but it was a miss, and I'm ranting because I really wanted it to be good.

I try to never give books one star, but this one was painful. I am so over books where seemingly competent adults put whiny teens in charge of regime change.

Love love loved this one!!

Loved this book! Flows nicely between Talias’s inner thoughts. Her life in Hunter’s village trying to become a Toxic hunter, but also her dealing with all the teenage thoughts and growing up. Great characters/character growth throughout book 1. Will definitely be reading book 2!

This book was really good, it reminded me of a movie I watched called "Push" with Chris Evans. It had a lot of similar elements to it, same abilities and same confused girl who doesn't know who's the real bad guy.
Overall I really liked the book, but I could tell what was going to happen. Nothing surprised me.
