My reading order probably influenced how I feel about this book. I read the Will Darling adventures first on the recommendation of a friend, followed by Proper English, followed by Think of England. Which makes it the earliest writing by this author that I have read - and I think it shows. I find the dynamic between the two leads kind of squicky, and for the first time with this author, I felt like she was fetishising them a bit because of some clichéd motifs in the dialogue. Overall, I remain not fully sold on this couple.

That said, the moment when
SpoilerDaniel is tied up in the cave and Curtis goes to save him
was quite a turning point. I'd thought I was uninvested, but suddenly I was hissing at the antagonists to back off. It's also nice to see Pat and Fen in action, since I read the books in chronological order rather than publishing order. Of course
Spoilerthey saved the day
.

I didn't have any expectations going in (perhaps because I hated the cover) so this was a quite the pleasant surprise! I always enjoy a house party gone awry and was even more intrigued when Archie begins to do a bit of espionage and finds he's not the only one.
SpoilerThen the "we have to kiss even though we hate each other to hide the fact that we're in a place we shouldn't be" moment happened and I lost my shit. And then it didn't end at just the kiss and I really lost my shit.

I don't know that I've ever read such a high-stakes, heart-pounding romance (well, more like the subplot) and I honestly loved it. I obviously have to read everything K J Charles has ever written more and I'm dying to read about Pat & Fen because they're so badass.

I could read another eighteen books about these two and it's a crying shame I won't get to

Anyway, it's perfect. The leads are perfect. The story is perfect. The stakes are high, the villains nefarious, the romance very believable, it's got every scene you could want it to have, and the very competent lesbians from the last book are here to help just to really seal the deal. Just adored it, will be rereading it again very soon.

Though again, it's a tragedy there aren't anymore. I think the Will Darling books might be similar in tone?? I'll be devouring those soon, too.

(I do think it's very funny this series is called 'England World', I get why but it still makes me laugh)
