A twisted character study - what is forged by magical power and trauma.
This lies somewhere between Novik's deadly education series (but a different kind of darkness) and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (secret society with a magical library in London).
The first three quarters were fascinating, I kept wanting to read just one more chapter, no matter which character was the focus. The end was ... Underwhelming? Abrupt? I already knew it was a trilogy, it definitely ends as if you're immediately picking up the next. Maybe I will.

I finally got through it, and it was most definitely in the latest parts where everything seemed to fit together, even though some mystifying areas still exist—a fact that made me love it. To be honest, I find that it wasn't my cup of tea in the first place, but by just continually reading it, especially that there are more than six characters involved, it is a challenge that you are rooting for; you might end up rooting for one or none, but it won't matter; it's a different kind of play in relationship dynamics that we don't find commonly. Often I have the obsessive urge to read the next installment just to find out what happened after, but this one was not the indulging type where it makes me go cray cray, but it gave both thrill and mystery that is enough to binge over for some weeks.

In The Atlas six by Olivie Blake, we follow six characters, each one has their own agenda but all of them must walk through the doors of the Alexandrian society in order to gain access to means necessary to succeed their personal goals. How far are you willing to go to get what you want? Are you ready to sacrifice your morals? To sacrifice your soul? Would you sacrifice another’s soul?
I still cannot decide if I liked the book or disliked it, or just didn’t care for it. It took me too long to become interested in the story; It started getting intriguing after 200 pages. I believe it’s a bit predictable… I guessed almost everything. It is a unique story, but the characters seemed mediocre to me. The author was so concerned in convincing us of everyone’s “gray morality” that I couldn’t distinguish any personalities within them. It felt like I read everything from the same POV but with just different “magical” abilities each time. Although I have a feeling that it’s going to be improved in the next books. Maybe I just need more time with them! I think I need to see how they behave outside of the society, how they are without one another, what they become on their own.
I liked the writing. The dialogue was pleasing as well! But I’m not sure if it’s enough for me to continue with the second book…

While I wanted to really love this book, I just couldn’t really get into it. It had great potential, but the pacing of the book was all over the place and I couldn’t really relate to any of the characters (except maybe Libby a little bit). The author would go on for pages talking in circles and using really flowery language that I found to be unnecessary. I would say that last 100 pages or so is when the plot actually picked up and I started to somewhat enjoy it, but the plot was still unclear at points due to the unneeded flowery prose. The characters were really hard to like—it felt like if you put a bunch of stuck up pureblood slytherins in a room together. I felt like Reina was a character with so much wasted potential. Libby and Nico’s potential academic-rivals-to-lovers arc was the one thing that kept me reading, and even THAT didn’t come to fruition when it felt so obvious. Not sure if that is explored in the next book, but I doubt I will end up reading it to find out.

I wanted to come back to this book to review because why not and maybe I will do more reviews like this, probably not though.
The characters are all pretentious assholes, there I said it, but they all have their flaws and things that make you like them a little bit at least.
Though I did expect everyone to kiss in this book or be a thing, I was like these two should date, not these two. but whoever gets with who I am just having a good time that is for sure.
I resonated with Libby more than I thought I would, but her anxiety really came through and her just asking all the questions to be absolutely sure of something, that is me all over.
The only character that I ever had trouble liking out of the main 6 was Callum and I am hoping for that to change in the second book because there is definitely more to him than we get to see. But if not oh well I will continue to root for the others over him. no biggie.
Give me fantasy elements, dark academia and asshole characters that have to interact, and I am probably gonna have a great time!! I am excited to see where this series will take us too next
