Listened to this story and enjoyed it. Some things were predictable and some were not - a good mix.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a chance to read The Lost Girls.

This book will likely stay with me for a long while. I've always loved stories that go from one era to the next in the form of journals and diaries, so I really enjoyed this. Emily's disappearance will have you second-guessing yourself as to who had a hand in her fate. I will say that it affected me more than I realised when (the night I finished the book) I had a nightmare about my daughter in which she died. I woke up and just spent the morning sobbing.

I loved reading of Lucy's past and I loved reading about Justine's present. There were so many complicated characters but it worked so so well. I recommend this to everyone.

This book scares me so much, it was almost difficult to give it a high rating. The setting on a lake house with a family of three sisters hits a little too close to home for me, and i felt very anxious and on edge throughout the whole book (which i suppose is the purpose). The whole thing was well written and developed beautifully, but again, so uncomfortable. Necessarily so? I’m unsure.

This may be the most disappointing book I’ve read this year.

The premise is brilliant but the story itself meanders along in a dual timeline that adds very little.

The 1935 story is atmospheric, but nothing really happens and what does happen is so slow that it borders on boring. I was expecting some shocking twist, but it’s actually quite obvious what happened to Emily, why Lilith is the way she is and the real guilt the father feels.

In fact, the synopsis gives away the entire plot, yet actually over-dramatises the story, making the book flat and unremarkable.

Characters are not likeable at all and the motive for their behaviour is very strange. Justine brings nothing to the story and does not even ‘solve’ the mystery.

It’s well-written, albeit long-winded, but unfortunately it just doesn’t work at all.

I received a copy of the book from Oldcastle Publicity and Verve Books. All opinions my own.

This book was a very slow read. I couldn’t get hooked until the last 100-150 pages. I felt like it included many unimportant details that made it drag out longer than it needed to. The story itself really isn’t much of a mystery, as Emily’s disappearance doesn’t happen until the end of the book and you immediately find out what actually happened to her. I loved the idea of the story, it just didn’t hook me in like I hoped.

A little too much ambiguity. I felt like I really didn’t get all the answers I wanted. Also the alternating chapters between generations hurt the flow of the story and disinterested me.
