The pacing drags in the middle but a really interesting perspective on agriculture's role in the biodiversity crisis and a proposal as to how to fix them.
Moderate: Animal death, Colonisation, and War

An absolutely astounding book that goes deep into the subject of food including its history and diversity and the stories of people still making ancestral forms of it or raising wild forms of it. Each chapter is a deep dive into one specific type of food such as a specific beer or cheese or apple or orange and its history and the wild varieties and the people involved in it today and who have been involved in the past. The author themselves is a world traveler and has met many chefs and Farmers growing ancient varieties of food and making long storied traditional dishes. The central message of the book being that we need to hold fast to the meals of our heritages and to keep safe the wild variants of everything we consume.

I didn't set out reading this to be depressed about food, but alas, I am now depressed out food AND the fate of humanity and food security. LOL. Anyway, this really has inspired me to plant more heirloom vegetables next year to do my small part. 🐌
