I got this from the library but I think it's a book I want to buy a physical copy of -- a sign that it's an excellent book that you should read immediately if you're a writer. Cron deftly moves around topics that other books touch on, but that have never really been clear to me. Wired for Story is exactly my kind of book though -- though perhaps the science-y side didn't give me as much as I would have wanted -- it definitely helps put into perspective the way we consume stories, and clarified with deep intensity the things you need to make a story really move.

Overall great, and clear writing. A+ would recommend.

Mostly read it less for pseudo-science about story and brains, and more about how to write a story.

5* the app is letting me rate atm.

I've done a fair bit of reading on neuroscience. It's a favorite topic of mine to read about. I've read many books by Antonio Damasio, some by V.S. Ramachandran, and some by Daniel Kahneman. I point all of this out to admit that, even as I read those books, I never once considered them in the context of stories and writing. Which is so crazy, since I love to read and I love to write.

Overall I liked the subversion of common wisdom and the bounty of useful, simple information and exercises. This is definitely a book I want to add to my writing shelf.

I’d give it 5 but I need to see if the tips work out first ;)

I don’t give our 5 stars easily, but this book was really well written. It completely changed my perception of stories and what happens when you read them and what neuroscience has to do with stories. the author depicted this very nicely thus it was an amazingly easy read despite being a quite complex topic. loved, incredibly interesting <33

*Assigned for a course reading*

Despite having to shove the contents of this book into my brain over the course of a day, I quite enjoyed it. I now feel that I understand the structure of a story better and feel that Cron has shown me some dark secrets only the best of the best know. Her book was incredibly enlightening and should be in the arsenal of every aspiring writer. I feel more confident in my writing and instead of the creeping doubt that many writers feel, I'm sure that I can create both believable characters and a captivating plotline after finishing this book.
