I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars for this book. I truly loved the story line and the majority of the writing, but I wanted MORE. There were moments at every turn that deserved more. More description, more information, more heart. This book could have been 200 pages longer and it would have been worth the read. 3.5 stars and looking forward to reading #3.

Despite having the better story, I liked this a little less than the previous one. Not sure why. Still, I can see why this series had an absolute stranglehold over my high school library back in the day.

These books are just so cozy. I love listening while I knit/crochet and just relaxing while Alanna does her adventuring things.

SPOILERS

I'm glad that Alanna's secret is out, as I'm sure she is as well. I didn't love the weird love-triangle in this book, even though it was pretty obvious which of the two men Alanna preferred...it's a trope I'm pretty tired of. And even though Alanna is "not like other girls," I'm not going to hold that against an older fantasy series the same as I would a series being published today
