This feels like an important book. I've never read a book with a main character with HIV before - and it's interesting to read one set in present day, when we've made so many leaps towards helping those who are HIV positive that you can live a good long life with it, despite the stigma and assumptions.

I liked the main character and the author writes the voice well. I really liked the LGBT aspect of it, especially the parents.

I received this ARC through Netgalley.

Great concept, but the execution fell short. The whole book felt like an adult trying to relate to the kids these days (I know, I know, adults are the ones who write books, including ones for kids. But still.) I can see this being good for anyone unaware of HIV and the social situations arising around it, particularly with teens and bullying involves, but I found myself wanting the environment to be more fleshed out. It felt like it was hitting a lot superficially, and the writing wasn’t my taste.

yeah uuuuh anyway you don't need to date someone of the same gender to be considered bisexual and idk why simone's friends only listened to her once she disclosed that she's dated a girl before? even though she, on many occasions, pointed out that she's attracted to women? and it still irks me that her so-called "friends" said that didn't count and it's not really detracted beyond a quick 'i'm sorry' that only comes after simone reveals she's dated a girl? idk but this is not a vibe for me, sorry not sorry about it

still gets 3 stars though because the content is important and i really enjoyed simone as a character, i just wish her friends didn't SUCK
