As a porn screenplay you could maybe give this book a 4 or 5 star rating. But as a book. Like one with a plot and such... not so good.
This is possibly one of the most sexually explicit things I have ever read. I will say that Sasha's ability to write sex is very adept. If you cut the gratuitous sex out of this book the story may have actually had merit. It would have been 27 pages long but it would have been recognized by a larger audience. Everyone was clambering over [b:Fifty Shades of Grey|10818853|Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1)|E.L. James|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1385207843s/10818853.jpg|15732562] when it came out as this raunchy sexual book.
NO.
This book and I am sure it is not the first of its kind or the most graphic but for me it takes the cake. This book makes Fifty Shades look like a virgin wrote it.
I had to read this book because it intrigued me that a former porn star, hardcore porn at that, would put something out that I could pick up at Barnes and Noble. While the book was bad I am still impressed with anyone who can get a book published and out to the masses. It is more than I can say about myself.
But damn is this book hard.
It is a shame that she wrote just sex in this book though. She does an excellent job with description and does create a very visual world with her writing but I just got so tired of it being sex scene after sex scene. It became more fluff to fill 300 pages than substance. Thats it guys! this book needed substance. Some of the hard sex could have stayed and gave Fifty Shades a run for its money. I am glad I gave Grey's first attempt at book writing a shot and ya know I will prob read her second if she makes another. Would be pretty crazy if a queen of porn becomes a New York Times Bestseller and takes over the industry.

Those are my feeling on this porno book(cuz that's what it is),
Justin

Good characters. Great smut. Good obersvations about people, power, art and other subjects.

But the pacing is a bit awkward and the plot only really get interesting and exciting in the last fifth of the book or so.

A good horny read all in all. If the next boon can get the secret society/conspiracy plot to be more cohesive and keep up the smut to this level, it will be a real winner.

Hiukan petyin kirjan tarinaan.

I really wanted to give this book three stars, because Sasha Grey can actually write decently well, but I admittedly DNF this at about 200 pages. I was starting to skim the constant sex scenes and by the 200-page point, I really didn't care to finish it.

Which sucks a little, because it seems like some plot started to develop after that point. From what I picked up, a murder mystery started to unfold and Anna, the main character's best friend, was... killed? Kidnapped? I didn't want to sit down and untangle that.

The plot came a little too late for my liking. If Charlotte/Sasha had skipped half the fantasy sex scenes in the start and moved quicker to the Juliette Society, I'd have likely finished this. Because yeah, yeah, some of the descriptions are a bit florid (but hey, it's erotica, what do you expect!), and I grew bored of them, but Grey, like I said, isn't a half-bad writer.

I'm not into erotica but this was not as cringe as I thought it would be. It feels like it blends memoir with manifesto and got very into ideologies in some places. I managed to find the audiobook on Spotify and was glad to give it a go. Overall pretty decent.

Man, I wanted to give this a better rating, but no. This felt like a constant hopping of plot, reality, and unrealistic thoughts. One moment, you’re on today and the next, the author lazily plows through some version of her irrelevant thoughts which somehow pertains to the current scenario, but never ties in to really… anything. Disappointing. Feels like a waste of time. I suppose we all know what this book was meant to be for: steamy, kinky, and “oh my” sex scenes. Even that fell short. It was so complicated to know if it was really happening or even where the character was, making it nearly impossible to delve fully into the fantasy of the inner fantasy of the character. It’s hard to follow along when you’re totally in the dark about the scene, time of day, reality, etc. Short of feeling like a drug-induced mania written string of thoughts, there are some enticing thoughts regarding humanity, sex, and what it means to us. And yes, there are some steamy scenes, albeit shattered they may be.

My first foray into erotica. Well written and interesting but I thought the last few chapters were weak. She intends for this to be a series so this definitely felt like a set up to something bigger.

what is that? I can't ever go farther than 50 pages. It's so gross and so slow. ugh.
I do NOT recommend this to anyone.
