The main character is so desperate and hard to read that it’s hard to get through this book

This was a uh unique concept. I did not like the characters. At all. Any of them. But it was an immersive read, that was quick. I think there was some character growth...but I did find it really hard to understand that main characters motives, but it is defintily a book that will product a visceral reaction in most people, I believe.

Certainly odd, yet fun? It’s refreshing to read something that is unafraid to stray from reality-grounded fiction popular right now. But it can drag at parts and get stuck in its own lofty rafters of trying to make a commentary on love, lust and death. No matter what assumption you go into this book with, it is nothing like that. Also, if you’re not ready for an unlikeable female protag, unpack that before reading this.

'if i died for him it was kinda like him not texting me back on a cosmic level'

stretch that sentence over 300 pages but make it really gross and really sexually explicit and you'd have the whole book in a nutshell. it's about love, death, nothingness, suicide, obsession, etc.

I liked the ending but did not enjoy the book overall. If you would enjoy 200 pages of suicidal thoughts then you would enjoy this book.

I didn't really enjoy this book at all. I first picked it up because I found it on a list of queer books. It definitely had some queer undertones, but the MC Lucy's voice/internal monologue and her actions to deal with her problems just grated on me so much. I think the only person (creature?) I kind of liked was Theo the merman and Dominic the dog. Dominic also deserved better.
