This book is somehow very dense while also containing very little. It felt like a heavy meal with no nutritional value. I grew tired of trying to root for any of the morally flawed characters and I felt swept up into Theo’s anxiety and unease every time I opened the book. Not for me.

This book is hard to get through; it’s very slow, but after finishing it I can recognize it as a great novel. It’s very long and it all comes together in the last 50 pages.

Beautifully written and it reads like a classic, but I can't say I enjoyed the plot. Gorgeous and heart-wrenching descriptions of grief are the brightest point, which is sort of saying something. Definitely check the trigger warnings on this book, because the depictions of suicide and drug abuse are very graphic.
