2 and a half stars, not quite three because I still don't know how long that time jump was actually meant to be.

The concept was good, I liked where the story seemed to be headed and the idea, but the execution and editing let it down (one major error was: a time jump, I'm still not sure whether it was meant to be years or months), although this didn't stop me from reading the rest in the series.

*Not everyone's opinions are the same, this is just my opinion,

The beginning of this book had so many superfluous details that could have been traded for more build up to Ruth’s relationship with four vampires. It feels like it just happens. No tension. No relationship drama. Just felt meh.

For having such an amazing premise and base, this was executed very poorly. There is nothing worse than a FMC who is all talk. Who thinks she is a bada** but is just weak. That was Ruth to a t. She cowered behind her daddy her whole life. She said, at 8, that she would never be weak again, yet she did nothing to achieve that? No self defense, weapons training? Nothing. I kept thinking her brilliant mind would be her strength. Nope. She had nothing. No plans. To top that off, this book read like a dream. It was incredibly choppy and the entire time I was asking myself ‘how did I get here?’ There was zero relationship building. The MMCs weren’t even truly introduced until the final 1/3 of the book, and even then it was the worst case of “instalove” and “you’re mine” I’ve ever read. Zero chemistry, character or relationship development. As intriguing as this storyline was at its core, and as many questions as I still have, the writing was a disaster and I won’t be continuing the series.

I might be overeating it because it has vampires in it (and by that I mean most certainly)

I really enjoyed the story, even if it's super confusing and slow. It's a 1st person narrative so we only know as much as the main character, which is not much. Also, the way of writing is confusing in itself. At first, I wasn't sure if they could hear them in her head or if he magically appeared.

FMC wants to appear strong but she doesn't understand anything around her (and so do we) and she wants to get revenge all the time but doesn't scheme AT ALL.

The romance also comes out of nowhere but I'm there for it.
(see what I meant by overeating it?)

Even with all this, I read it in one setting and was really pulled into the story. I hope for character development in the next book... And for FMC to set their world ablaze!
