I have heard nothing but good things about this book, which prompted me to put it on hold at the library. When I started reading it, I wondered if I was reading the same book as all those reviews I read. While I didn't dislike it, it didn't grab me... at first. Once I got past the first couple of chapters, I found that I didn't want to put this down. Some of the story was fairly easy to predict - I immediately knew who she would say was the love of her life the moment the character was introduced, but loved how their story came about - the good, the bad, and the ugly. Other parts, less easy to predict - the twist at the end was a great touch, though I think it took way too long to get there. That said, I have not stopped thinking about the book and its ending since I finished it last night, which prompted me to give it 4 stars instead of 3.5.

I have been in a reading slump for two years now. After constantly trying to find a book worth reading and worth my time, finally, without thinking, I chose to read this book and everything has been easy for me. It didn't feel so heavy that I had to force myself to finish it, it just came naturally.

This book was bravely made. It was an amazing experience. I love how TJK wrote this in a manner where you have this initial thought about Evelyn until the story unfolds and proves you wrong. It was powerful at the same time, empowering.

This is what I missed in 2 years. The feeling of being a new person after finishing a book.
Thank you for this experience TJK

Couldn't get past the first few chapters reading this on my own but the pedestrian prose style is augmented by good narration in audio format. I expected this to be both more tragic and less queer than it is; what a welcome surprise to discover the drama isn't born of inner turmoil, self-loathing and blatant homophobia but rather the ordinary ways in which people's priorities conflict. For a book about beautiful, talented, rich people concerned with public perception, it leaves a gratifying amount of room for agency and joy. It takes definite moral stances and leaves little to the imagination, which rather takes away from the artistry of the novel, but it's confidently told, progresses well in terms of structure, and ultimately felt affirming.

Solid gold trash! Badly written - very "and then, and then, and then". But very easy to read and at least mildly entertaining. I'll read anything
wlw especially if there's bisexual representation
though and I'll enjoy it for that alone!!!
