Still enjoyable and very readable for a book not typically in my genre.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as The Cuckoo's Calling but I still found it a great read! Strike and Robin are such interesting characters and I really hope that Rowling continues with the series, despite her disappointment of having her pen name outed! The murder in this one was quite grisly and I didn't guess the culprit until right before the big reveal - I was hung up on thinking it was another character!
Overall, a great read, though the details of the murder and the book within the book may put some off. Nice to see Rowling branch out into the adult genre and I hope to read more about Strike and Robin (fingers crossed she dumps that horrid fiancé!)!!

I truly appreciate JK Rowling's writing style. She is the queen of conversation. Dialogue flows with ease and makes for a quick read. The ending was not mind-blowing, but I enjoyed the journey.

I like these books. I'm not in love with them but I do hope she continues the series. This one was much stronger than the first in my opinion, the pacing was much more fluid which was my biggest criticism of the first book. The murder was a bit gruesome but if you read a lot of crime thrillers its not crazy over the top. Strike and Robin's professional relationship matured nicely and naturally and I'd look forward to learning why Robin left school in the next book. She also stopped tip-toeing around her fiancee and it was nice to see it not devolve into a big dramatic mess. Overall: Strong character development, twisty murder mystery, good novel.

Fun read as I enjoy the main characters, but liked the first more.
