A fun spooky season read. It could use a little editing for my taste. I didn’t care much at all for Samson’s journey and found that aspect of the book tedious. Nothing revolutionary here, but the main character makes it compelling and enjoyable enough.

I decently enjoyed this book and it's sympathy for the devil angle in a story about what could happen when someone is accused of "deviltry" and decides to become the boogeyman others claim them to be. However I knocked a half star off my score because of the gratuitous and in my opinion completely unnecessary murder of Abitha's cat Booka. Yes I get she was accused of witchcraft and Booka was seen as her familiar in a book set in the 1600s. But when you have characters as comically EVIL as the antagonists in this story, I personally don't think you need to throw in animal torture to drive home that they deserve what they get in the end.
