I liked the book so mch. The beginning was sweet and attracted the reader to read. I liked the twist and the ending was not what I expected. I expected it to be stronger and better,, but over all the book was very, very enjoyable after all definitely read another books from freida mcfadden.

Holy moly. The twist is crazy. I can never think of sth like this.

For starter, Ms. Freida is a very good author. I was listening to this audiobook to sleep and i had to turn it off because i was so scared. I mean, the idea of someone lurking around the house is just so creepy to me. I can’t. I had to stop twice.

And now i think i might have nightmares tonight.

It’s a page turner and quick read. The twist at the end doesn’t make any sense. It’s lazy writing. Would be cool if she could have done that twist without blatantly misleading the reader first, by leaving out what the main character would actually be thinking.

After scrolling through a bunch of 5 star reviews claiming this twist would blow my ass off (paraphrasing here), I was kinda sad that I correctly guessed the twist within the first few chapters. However, I willingly admit I am not the best person to base twist predictability on, being that my job irl is solve major crimes and I’ve had 15 years of training on the subject. Aka, what is predictable to me will most likely not be the same for most people because I have the tendency to think like a psychopath from the jump lol.

Overall, this was very entertaining and a fast-paced read. It also had like four twists, so it was fun to be able to bounce different theories around as you got to know the characters better. I really enjoyed this and think she has made incredible progress in her writing (or editing budget) since The Housemaid. Definitely worth the read and the ambiance makes it a perfect starting point to set the tone for future spooky-season reads.

Sloppily put together, BUT…

I truly felt that this book was written sloppily. It’s easy to have an idea and hard to put it together in a way that meshes completely. The writing was tough to handle, felt a bit immature but I gave two stars because I was pleasantly surprised with the ending. Some reviews said they saw it coming but I did not, not every single piece.
