The art was really good. Story was well told. But for me personally i wasn't in to it. I had no idea what this was about at all going into it. But after reading I realized it was a contemporary type graphic novel. I personally don't care for contemporary but if you do give this a try. I think you'll like it.

Studying the graphic novel for a course I am taking. This book is written for teens/adults. It is heartbreaking and painfully honest. Craig Thompson describes it as fiction based on personal experience. I could not put it down. I have read that religion is the last taboo in YA lit. Thompson takes on the issue head-on in this work. He also covers sibling relationships, first love, and parental expectations.

I don't usually write reviews. I read this in one sitting. I physically couldn't tear myself away from it. It is a masterpiece that will stay with me for a very long time.

Second read:
So poignant and piercing... I don't cry at books often but this one doesn't leave a choice.

Okay. I have been thinking a lot about why I didn't like this as much as everyone else.

I just don't want to read another story about how a woman changes a man's life. I understand how important first loves are and how dumb teenagers are but it's just one too many of these stories for me. If I was like 16, I probably would have very much enjoyed this but at 28, I can say with confidence this isn't a story I want to read anymore.
