A heartwarming and informative story of how Pelé was a young boy whose life changed by soccer and how it became what it is today in the USA and in ways the world. A bit difficult to read because I didn’t find the writing all that captivating. Worth the read for a soccer lover though.

I really enjoyed how this memoir focused on a handful of moments from Pelé’s life, instead of trying to tackle everything from top to bottom. It was a great format you suddenly want to feel from other memoirs. However, as Pelé himself notes, his fame was so great, in order to survive there became the public figure Pelé, and the private figure Edson. As you finish this book, you still wonder who Edson is.

I enjoy soccer but am in no way a die hard fan, and this book caters to both groups. this book was a great look into the history of Pelé and modern soccer, as well as the political, social, and economic climate of Brazil, USA, and the world throughout his life.

This is such an inspiring book! I learned more about the beautiful game from this humble, funny, and uniquely talented man. Pele is incredible, and this book helped me channel my passion for soccer ever more!

A great telling of his life through his eyes and through the filter of the beautiful game.
