First, let me say that I tend to over-star books. If I liked it, 5 stars. If I loved it, 5 stars. If it was okay and I finished it, 4 stars. If it was a slog with some good points and I finished it, 4 stars. If I can’t finish it, no stars. Very (extremely) rarely, I will dip down to 3 stars. But almost never.
That being said, this one is really 5 stars. This is the closest I have come to *knowing* that someone understands the incredibly deep level of elephant on my chest, losing entire days, I will never breathe again grief that I felt when my father died in 2020. Someone with much more power over words than I will ever have has done it - put all of my feelings out there so they can be shared and, maybe, understood.
I miss my dad. And I love this tiny, heartbreakingly beautiful book.
