I don’t quite know how to feel about this one—the narrative style was unique which made it fun to read but it was also a bit anti-climactic at times

Was expecting We Were Liars, instead I got spoilt brats ruining marriages. It wasn't bad, but also wasn't good

Wow this book is just soo good, dark disturbing and yet utterly captures how focused and damaging the focus of teenagers minds can be, how siblings can be annoying and yet still be considered family till someone strange, dark and handsome comes to wreck that image. This is about more than just a family of friends and will they won’t they summer romance. It’s about betrayals, lies and deceit which can swirl and whirl around in the heat of summer. This is a fantastic book and one that captures the essence of teenagers and on the cusp of growing up and away.

I loved this SO much, although I would minus half a star just because I’m not sure why kit was so heavily blamed for mal’s leaving? Also the main character was a bit annoying at the start because she seemed to have problems with everyone. I did also find some of the characters to be a bit stereotypical rather than fully fledged characters. The main character’s obsession with mattie being a ‘sixteen-year-old sex goddess’ was also weird, especially with how I imagined her being older than Mattie, but I guess that was just meant to be jealousy.

But I still loved this book so much and it will defo be one of my favs for a while. I loved all these characters despite maybe not knowing much about them all, especially alex and mal. I loved the intrigue of this book. I will always enjoy books set during summer in big houses by the sea!

A beautifully written summer read I would recommend to anyone, even if it had some issues - they didn’t annoy me really. I wanna hear all my friends’ and family’s thoughts on this story!

At times between 3.5-4 | I did enjoy the vibe of this book! I wish I’d read it when I went up north, it was a slow paced coastal beach family in England! There were certain sentences that rubbed me the wrong way, but not a bad book!

Janna, this is worth reading for the writing and descriptions but I wouldn’t put it at the top of your list.
