This was a hard one to get through - it would have benefitted from a chunky edit. There’s a huge amount of repetition, a lot of nonsensical decision making, and our protagonist haphazardly running down clearly stupid ‘leads’. There isn’t really a single likeable character either. A number of things that happen are highly unlikely, some veering towards farcical.

It had potential, but was really much too slow to be suspenseful, and whatever good ideas there were, these just weren’t executed properly. I should add that I listened to the audio which was very forced. It felt like an over-acted mess with an almost pantomime delivery. I ended up skipping a lot of it as it was very predictable and some of the chapters are almost identical to one another in content and tone.

The main character, Cherries, is really annoying and there's many chapters devoted to her just saying the same thing and acting the same way and not developing, growing, or helping anyone

Really enjoyed this one! I was engaged from the very opening. It’s also actually quite terrifying - mostly because it has some graphic descriptions of events. For that reason I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who was particularly sensitive, but if you like thrillers this is for you!
I found that the scene changes between chapters were very visual, which had a “movie” effect ... this really helped me visualise the novel, which I loved.
I was a little disappointed by the ending, hence the 3 star rating. It wrapped things up neatly, which was fine, but didn’t really fit the tone of the novel - which was that something bigger was brewing. As a reader I felt a little down. That being said, as a whole, the book was a really engaging, scary thriller! A great halloween read!!!

I’ve had this on my the list for a while so thought I’d give it a go finally.  The story started well, keeping me intrigued for a while but then things were happening in the story that were unbelievable to me which then put me off the story somewhat.  I had a theory throughout the book of what I thought had happened and that turned out to be correct by the end.

The synopsis made this book sound more interesting than it actually was, and I was so disappointed while reading this.

this was… fine.

the protagonist and the plot were both boring and it felt longer than it needed to be. there was a lot of repetition and the mystery didn’t really come together in a surprising way. the resolution of a number of red herrings was pretty limp.

this is the level of passable entertainment that would keep me distracted on an airplane, but i will forget about this book entirely as soon as i post this
