The audio narration really made this book great, especially during the primary sections of Ava speaking to the police. You can tell that Ava is not wholly honest a s exaggerating details before the twist reveals itself: a large part of that is thanks to the fantastic job the narrator did with inflection. This is a fun, international romp that fans of Good Girls will enjoy.

There were a couple twists, but they weren’t very twisty. I didn’t find the characters or relationships or power dynamics very believable or compelling. Ultimately was bored.
SpoilerI get that Ava was supposed to be an unreliable narrator, but even once that news was broken to the audience, I was like oh… that’s it? 60% of the book was a lie, but not a very interesting one?

I think this would have been fabulous on audio, the majority of the story is told to us through the main character talking to a detective. Not much was actually shown in real time making it a bit slow to read. Overall, love this cozy mystery so much. It felt like Crazy Rich Asians meets Inventing Anna because I was definitely rooting for them to get away with it. Definitely recommend if it sounds up your alley!

This one was quite an entertaining read!
"Money can't buy happiness... but it can buy a decent fake." It's the story of two Asian American women who band together to grow a counterfeit handbag scheme into a lucrative global enterprise. The story is told as Ava recounts everything that happened to a detective.

I really enjoyed how the scheme worked, how everything unfolded, how certain prejudices played into everything, how the characters used it as a leverage, the unreliable narration and the twists! I did have trouble liking the characters but that may have been the point. Although I did understand some of the parenting woes.

Thank you NetGalley William Morrow and @BookClubGirl for the ARC!

This book could’ve been as good as the movie “Emily The Criminal” but instead it was fluff?? Like it could’ve been a whole thriller with the subject matter?? Idk I’m a bit disappointed. The writing style was good though!
