To truly review this book would be to write a hate letter. I can honestly say I did not enjoy a single part of this book, and I cannot believe it came from the same human who authored Where'd You Go, Bernadette? The term "scatter-brained" describes this book with shocking accuracy.

Recently, I have been enjoying literary fiction. The sequenced, fragmented, or cluttered texts of these types of books have interested me. However, I am staying away from this genre for a while after this disastrous read. I kept thinking that the next pages would redeem the book, but there was never a point in this book that the plot got better. The plot, if you can even call it that, seemed like word salad to me. The main character was so irritating that the book became very hard to read without feeling frustrated. Also, although this book was fiction, there was not one action taken by the main character (who was a fully adult woman) that was realistic.

Overall, I could write paragraphs on how much this book disappointed me. For the sake of avoiding bad memories (the book), I am going to stop writing- I have no positive things to say about this book,

I think you're either a Where'd You Go Bernadette or TWBD person, as far as I can tell from reading the reviews. I really didn't care where Bernadette went but I really loved being along for the ride with Eleanor on her wildly stressful day. Except it ended pretty suddenly and anticlimactically and left me unsatisfied, which brought this down from 5 to 4 stars.

Couldn't get past the first couple dozen pages. Disappointing as I really liked her other book.

This book seemed like it would be funny, but after a while I just found it slightly depressing.

I really enjoyed Bernadette so was looking forward to a new book by Semple. She does a great job of creating protagonists that are both relate-able and yet quite quirky. The same happens here.

Aside from some flashbacks to further the story, the entire book occurs in 24 hours - making it very readable. The simple story has moments of both humor and poignancy and balances them well. Semple creates characters with depth that you can truly imagine buzzing through their days around Seattle or New Orleans.

While the ending felt a little bit rushed, it is definitely worth the read.

Disappointed as I loved Bernadette. This main character is just bonkers. I liked the side stories more than the main plot. I think this is one case where the printed book is much better than the audible. I browsed the book at a bookstore and saw the illustrations. I think it would've been much easier to keep the story straight reading. Hate the author's view of Christianity.
