A good sequel - [b: City of Ashes|1582996|City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2)|Cassandra Clare|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1432730356s/1582996.jpg|1575860] has the same fast pace as the first book in the series, [b: City of Bones|256683|City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)|Cassandra Clare|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1432730315s/256683.jpg|2267189], and is mostly driven by the plot.

I enjoyed this book, although I had the same problems with it as I had with the first book. The writing is too descriptive, especially in fight scenes and I found my eyes glazing over a little bit and I didn't always understand what was happening in the fights, so I just read the dialogue. Also, the characters are all slightly one-dimensional - all the youths seem to be sassy and witty, with no other personality traits to speak of. Also, the dodgy sibling romance thing got old quite quickly, and I got a little fed up of Clary and Jace being angsty.

Overall though, it was a really good sequel that followed on well from the first book.

This is going to be a mini review since I do not want to give away a whole lot for whomever hasn't read this series and hasn't read the first book. I figure this is what I will do for sequels. If it is a sequel, I'll just do a mini review of it. Except for when the books are completely different (i.e. different characters).

Anyways, I thoroughly enjoyed this second one. I think I may have liked the story more so than the first one? I think I gave the first one 5 stars (I can't remember) and I know I'm only giving this one 4 stars, but I really think I enjoyed this one more. There was a lot more action. And you didn't have to go through all the world building from the first book. You already knew about the world and you got to experience more, like The Seelie Court (where the faeries live).

I really hate the tension between Clary and Jace. 1. I love them together. 2. I know they aren't related. 3. Just let me have their romance already! This is probably why the book is a 4 star for me. I really enjoyed Simon after he was turned in this book. And my favorite character is still Izzy. She is kick ass <3
