Well written sequel to my favorite book. It doesn't depart into a graphic romance or change our main characters personalities like many sequels have done. The mystery was compelling if not complex (perhaps spoiled by my finding the miniseries before the book) but it was different enough to keep me reading and Darcy and Lizzy's relationship was much richer than the miniseries week showing. It is my favorite Pride and Prejudice follow up to date.

Death Comes to Pemberley? Death Comes to Me Death by Boredom.

Where was the sparkle of Pride and Prejudice? Elizabeth's striking wit? The devotion between Darcy and Elizabeth? Where was the bright personalities which made Pride and Prejudice one of our best loved classics?

The dialogue was sparse and uninteresting, the characters had less personality than a dead fish and the plot was entirely lacking in both excitement and thrills.

If you are going to use established and well-known characters such as these then you have to capture the spark and brilliance that made them as loved in the first place. Instead I felt as though the characters were used for no other reason than to draw fans of Pride and Prejudice to this novel.

Darcy and Elizabeth have lived on because we felt what they felt, we fell in love as they did. Rather than show us how in love Darcy and Elizabeth are, or Charles Bingley and Jane, we are just told that they are happy, in an entirely flat and undeveloped way.

Definitely not a good read.

I just couldn't finish. It not only tainted the original source material but didn't give us anything new to the world Jane created - "of course Mary married the Parson." Really?

Read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies for a fun romp through the source material.

initially, i was intrigued by the return to permberley, but it couldn't hold my interest and i found myself flipping the pages as if it was an assignment for high school, sadly.

For most of the book I wasn’t as engaged as I usually would be with a mystery. It adhered pretty well to the Jane Austen style of writing, so it was much more focused on Lizzie and Darcy’s thoughts and feeling about the situation rather than trying to solve the murder. I appreciated that, but it still felt like every wrapped up at the end because it had to, rather than because the plot caused it to do so. That being said, the ending was very satisfying, much more so that the murder of Mr Wickham. The characters felt more fleshed out, and while I still heartily dislike Wickham, I like that there may be a resolution in which he improves.

3 stars for the story, 1 additional for the characters. It didn't feel as if I was not reading Austen.
