Oh my lord! This book was such a good one - it wasn’t what i expected when I first began reading but I’m so glad it wasn’t. The representation in characters, the plot, the message…everything was so well thought out and so well written.

Amazing

The first half I wasn't too keen on, took a while to understand the world it was set in and there seemed to be almost two storylines happening at once. Mind you, I loved the depth all the characters were given as they seemed fully human - even if mostly impossible to relate to. They were a brilliantly diverse bunch too. But then the second half became more of the thriller I was expecting and when everything began coming together and inter-weaving it did get good. Glad I stuck with it as the ending was a shocker but also it ended on a positive note.

One of the best YA contemporaries I've read this year dealing with so many issues that I feel other authors might just vaguely brush over or mention but Juno has them as the main part of the story helping to build a world that I believe does exist, despite hoping to never be a part of it. The Alice theme just made it so much better and puts a modern spin on the original story. I know now that when I think of Alice in Wonderland, I'll always think back to this book and the Alice in here who is brave and loved and so real and accepting of who she is and what she wants eventually. I also understand more into the struggles of being transgender and how that unfortunately its still not fully accepted into society that transwomen are women or other gender identities. I'm glad to have read this and think we need more books like these or push existing ones into being mainstream and more well-known. Honestly, I'd love to have a friend like Alice and this book has bumped Juno up to one of my top 5 authors.

This is the first book I've read for my 2023 Blackout Bingo card as 'a book that is a retelling.' I enjoyed this a lot, following Alice's story and her reflections on being trans and her mental illness. As per usual, I find Dawson's writing very readable and fun.
