The story was poignant and involved an heroine with some gipsy blood. However, it was over the top with villains that were all bad and committed murder or murder attempts one after the other, it got a bit much by the end. I preferred the first half of the book which would have deserved 5 stars.

In Collette Cameron's new release The Viscount's Vow, which is really from an earlier time period than her first book Highlanders Hope, we have the makings of your classic Regency Era Romance. However that being the case Ms. Cameron takes it up a notch with intrigue, revenge and my favorite gypsies.
I have always been fascinated by gypsies and their culture and traditions, from the time I was a gypsy in for Halloween in the third grade I have read and watched many things about them. The Viscount's Vow makes that element of the book fascinating as well as seamless.

Evangeline, Vangie, is beautiful, strong and smart. Ian is at first tries to be vindictive but is captivated by Vangie and the pair learn to love each other through many a wild twist and turn. From Balls to gypsy camps and mourning, forced weddings and gypsy divorce to love, trust and triumph.

This is another fantastic read from Ms. Cameron and I am hoping that this will be a long and plentiful series as I have adored the first two books.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

The author is really good with language and descriptions and her prose flows nicely. It's just I ended up being irritated with the heroine and positively annoyed with the hero.
Evangeline is shown to be strong and courageous on one side and a complete moron on the other side. She is innocent, yet being part Romani she doesn't have an insight into the realities of human nature, even a little bit.
The hero varies between very shrewd and a dullard, who cannot question even the most basic untrue story.
All in all, it may be a match made in idiot heaven, but the differences between the characters, the scenes which ranged from steamy to absolutely saccharine were a bit too much for this reader.

I'm always on the look out for a great Regency romance. While The Viscount's Vow had promise, it fell just a little short for me.

Let's start with the good. I appreciated the fact that Evangeline was part Romani and it was a key part of the story. She has some interesting skills learned from her Romani family and her visit to the Romani camp was a nice turn in the story.

And the not so good. I had trouble caring about both Ian and Evangeline. I found Evangeline to be on the weak side, not standing up for herself and so forth, but I suppose that comes from having a hard life. I didn't particularly like how she kept jumping to wrong conclusions, which I guess what mostly to add some length and conflict to the story. And I really didn't like the villain... and not in a good way. I felt the villain was so over the top evil with no redeeming qualities and I found it hard that no one seemed to see it. I can't put my finger on it, but it just didn't sit well with me.

The narration was by Stevie Zimmerman. Her English accent almost sounded a little too proper for the story and she doesn't really change her voice much for the different characters. But her pacing is good and she enunciates well and I don't really have any complaints of her performance.

Was this my favorite story? No. But it wasn't the worst I've ever read either. For me it was a middle of the road read and I'll likely try more from Ms Cameron in the future.

I was given a copy of this audio book for review, but all opinions are my own.

This was a very interesting story. I liked how Vangie is proud of her Roma heritage. She's almost always armed with a dagger/knife on her body. She's fairly upfront with her new husband, only he doesn't believe her when she insists that she's a virgin. (Men can be so stupid.)
The evil stepmother--WOW. Can we say "Cruella De Vil"??? But I love the house staff for being so willing to keep Vangie safe, even if she's locked up in the tower.

Its a good story, he does treat her badly at first, based on misinformation that she has had many lovers he hurts her on their wedding night. He realizes things are not adding up and gets to know her better. The story is quite long, i think its because there are quite a lot of musings in both characters heads, a lot of detail. But i didn't mind. I am looking to read book two.
