so so so good, the way it's a both a gut-wrencing memoir and an exploration of literary genres/tropes/motifs AND an analysis of the existing literature on queer partner abuse, basically read it all in one sitting and immediately wanted to re-read it

This book. Holy forking shirt. This book. This memoir pulled on my heart & made me want to immediately hug the author and every other person who has lived this experience.

The second person point of view was beautifully done and forced the reader (in a good way) to connect and empathize with the author. Just wow!

This book is a much needed representation of not only abuse in queer relationships but also a representation of mental & emotional abuse - topics that aren’t talked about enough when it comes to domestic violence. Additionally, this book did a beautiful job describing the complex feelings someone might feel while experiencing abuse - love, pain, hatred, & confusion.

Just wow. No other words right now.

“Fear makes liars of us all.”

Like most things, I am struggling to put my review into words. But mostly because this book was very relatable to me on many levels. And not just from the author’s POV. MANY quotes and situations in this book struck a cord with me, for better or for worse. And because of that, I don’t really know what to say about the actual content of the book. It’s good but also, it hurts. It’s so real and relatable that I found myself dissociating or becoming distracted while reading. So at the end of the day, the content is great because it’s real, so reader beware.
